H.E. Ambassador SONG Young-wan spoke on the Rise of Asia in the 21st century in terms of Gross Domestic Products (GDPs) in comparison with the West. Yet, He pointed out so-called "Asian Paradox", i.e. political tensions in spite of an increasing interdependence in the economy and trade among East Asian countries. The current Korean administration proposed "Northeast Asia Peace and cooperative Initiative (NAPCI)" with a view to addressing this complex issue.
In addition, he briefly introduced the history of Korea and explained the current situation in the Korean Peninsula, including a comparison between North and South Koreas. It is a well-known fact that North Korea continues to develop nuclear and missile programs against the wishes of the international community while its people and human rights are in dire situation. He finally introduced the bilateral relationship between Korea and Austria and underscored the necessity of strengthening the relationship in the future.
