Daniel Pokerschnig (CALIFORNIA Chapter)
"A career abroad sounded very appealing to me even as a student. However, I didn't expect it to happen so soon after graduation and that it would be the USA right away," Daniel Pokerschnig smiles. Daniel graduated from the University of Graz with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and then joined Jerich Austria as an International Management Trainee. "Shortly after starting, I was already able to gain a few months of international experience in Luxembourg and Belgium, and soon after the CEO asked if I would be willing to work for our branch in the USA. I jumped at the chance and accepted," says Pokerschnig. The world belongs to the brave! A saying that the native of Graz has chosen as his personal guiding principle in life - and which is even immortalized on his surfboard.
In the meantime, Daniel Pokerschnig has been in Los Angeles for about four years. His summary: "Living and working abroad is certainly a great challenge, as you move out of your comfort zone.
Everything is new and you completely rebuild your life. It has enriched me a lot and, above all, made me grow." The daily work routine and work culture in the U.S. are different from those in Austria. "The typical daily routine for many Austrians of 8 a.m. to the office and 5 p.m. sharp to get out doesn't really exist in southern California. In your free time, you can experience something new here every day and the possibilities are almost limitless. Where else can you go surfing and skiing on the same day, for example?"
My travel tip
"A road trip along the California coast around Palos Verdes. There is public parking at the well-known Terranea Resort and a wonderful hiking trail along the bluffs overlooking Catalina Island."
